On Monday, Athens-Clarke County police continued seeking possible motives for the shooting death of 24-year-old Ramonte Harris at Regency Park Apartments over the weekend.

As reported in The Athens Banner-Herald, Harris was shot and killed at around 5 p.m. on Saturday at his Sycamore Drive residence by 21-year-old Darrall Christopher Early, according to police.

Authorities said they charged Early with murder following their interrogation.

Police said they learned that an argument took place before the shooting, but did not know what the argument was about.

Police Capt. Jerry Saulters of the Criminal Investigations Division said detectives were trying to find out if the shooting was gang related since Harris was a member of local street gang, NBA. However,  it was unknown if Early had gang affiliations.

“That is something we will look into also,” Saulters said.

Harris’ death occurred a week after Athens recorded its first homicide this year.

On Jan. 26, Latisha Gresham, 36, was fatally shot by her boyfriend during an altercation at their Moreland Avenue residence.

The boyfriend, 40-year-old Marion Adkins Jr., was still at the scene and confessed to shooting Gresham, according to police who charged him with murder.

Police ask that anyone with information about the Sycamore Drive homicide contact Detective Kim Johnson at (706) 613-3330 or kimberly.johnson@accgov.com.
